Céline Dion has expressed a moving tribute to her late husband, René Angélil, marking the 10th anniversary of his passing. Her message was a poignant reminder of their enduring love and partnership.

René Angélil, who was instrumental in discovering and nurturing Dion’s remarkable music career, passed away on January 14, 2016, at the age of 73. His death followed a protracted struggle with throat cancer, a battle that showcased both his resilience and the couple’s unwavering bond.

The couple’s journey together spanned 21 years of marriage, during which they became parents to three children: René-Charles, now 24, and 15-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy. Their family life was as harmonious as their professional collaboration, underscoring the deep connection they shared.

On Wednesday, Dion, 57, took to Instagram to share her heartfelt reflections with her nearly 10 million followers. Her words captured the essence of her loss and the strength she continues to draw from Angélil’s memory.

“Mon amour, ten years without you feels like just a day, and yet each day feels like a decade,” Dion began her tribute. “Ten years without your caress, and yet every day I feel your touch… We miss you more than we can bear, but you taught us to be strong,” she continued, illustrating the profound impact he left on her life.

‘We love you more, every day and every year,’ the statement concluded. It was signed by Dion and the couple’s three sons.

The My Heart Will Go On singer included a stunning photo of Angélil’s portrait displayed on a black piano with the sun shining on her late husband’s face.

Dion publicly honors Angélil’s memory every year on both his birthday and the anniversary of his death.

In December 2024, Dion marked what would’ve been their 30th wedding anniversary by sharing a photo of the two from their ceremony on December 17, 1994, which was held in Montreal, Canada

In her photo, the lovebirds gazed into each other’s eyes while Dion caressed her husband’s face.

She was dressed in a stunning white lace and satin dress with plunging neckline, and she added a touch of opulence with a sparkling headpiece covering her forehead, along with a traditional white veil.

‘You still fill our hearts, every day. You are everything for us. We miss you so much,’ read her heartbreaking caption.

‘Happy 30th anniversary, mon amour!’ she added, before signing off for herself and the couple’s three sons.

Dion’s first came into Angélil’s orbit when she performed for him in 1980 when she was just 12 years old. The audition was a success, and he agreed to become the budding singer’s manager.

But their relationship became romantic by 1987, when Dion was 19, and the two tied the knot seven years later in 1994.

Dion reportedly feared that the public would assume their relationship began before she was of age, so she kept details of the relationship close to the vest for years.

‘I was afraid of what people would think,’ she admitted in a 1994 interview with People.

But their connection was simply too strong for her to keep it to herself.

‘When you’re in love, you want to scream it to the world,’ she added.

It wasn’t until the couple got engaged in 1993 that Dion was finally comfortable letting the world know about their relationship.

‘When I was at the age to be able to say to people [we were together] … It was like bang! Love! Love always wins,’ she wrote in her memoir, via People.

Angélil later died in 2016  from throat cancer just two days before he would have turned 74.

A representative for the couple issued a statement at the time confirming Angélil’s passing.

“René Angélil, 73, passed away this morning at his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer. The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment,’ a statement read, according to People.

The couple’s eldest son René-Charles later delivered the eulogy at his father’s funeral just three days shy of his 15th birthday.

Angélil’s death preceded a second tragedy for the My Heart Will Go On singer, as her brother Daniel died of cancer two days later at age 59, on what would have been her husband’s birthday.

Dion was hit by another devastating blow in 2022 when she revealed that December that she had been diagnosed with a neurological condition called Stiff Person Syndrome.

The rare disorder has side effects including muscle spasms, which have severely impacted her ability to perform and hit notes she used to effortlessly belt throughout her illustrious career.

According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, the disease affects one to three people per million and eventually leaves those who suffer from it as ‘human statues.’

The condition progressively locks the body into rigid positions, leaving sufferers unable to walk or talk.

Dion previously described the condition to NBC News as feeling like ‘someone is strangling you.’

Dion’s Prime Video documentary I Am: Celine Dion, released in 2024, depicts her harrowing day-to-day life with SPS.
