FBI Director Kash Patel dropped a major bombshell on Sunday by accusing Canada of allowing drugs and terrorists to flow over the northern border into the U.S. Patel is turning his attention to Canada and demanding the country do more to stop illegal activity at the border.

He said that Mexico has done more to partner with Washington, D.C. to stop those on the terrorist watch list and other bad actors from getting over the border, and he told Canada to ‘step up’ to the plate. President Donald Trump has repeatedly proposed that Canada become the 51st U.S. state to avoid tariffs and create a mutually beneficial relationship. Many see this as an unserious proposal, but Trump has kept up the rhetoric since after he won reelection and first mentioned the idea in November 2024.

Patel told Maria Bartrimono in an interview over the weekend with Fox News that beyond the debate of becoming a state, he’s concerned with Canada for not being a good partner to the U.S. He said that of the 300 known or suspected terrorists who came into the U.S. last year, 85 percent came through the northern border.

Speaking in the pre-recorded interview, Patel also suggested that the prevalence of fentanyl in the U.S, despite Trump closing the southern border, is all Canada’s fault. ‘In the first two, three months that we have been in the seat under Donald Trump’s administration, he has sealed the border. He has stopped border crossings. So where’s all the fentanyl coming from still? Where’s the trafficking coming from still?’ Patel questioned.

He answered his own question with: ‘The northern border.’ ‘Our adversaries have partnered up with the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) and others – Russia, Iran – on a variety of different criminal enterprises, and they’re going and they’re sailing around to Vancouver and coming in by air,’ the FBI Director explained. He even said that these drug traffickers are making the drugs in Canada before bringing them over the northern border.

Patel slammed Canada’s government for failing to ‘cooperate’ to ‘firm up that northern border’ and to allow ‘tyranny’ to prosper. ‘Now, we’re focused on it, and we’re calling our state and local law enforcement partners up there,’ he said. ‘You know who has to get to stepping, is Canada? Because they’re making it up there and shipping it down here,’ Patel told Bartiromo in a joint interview with FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino.

‘And I don’t care about getting into this debate about making someone the 51st state or not,’ he added. ‘But they are our partner in the north.’ ‘And say what you want about Mexico, but they helped us seal the southern border. The facts speak for themselves.’ He lauded Trump for closing the southern border and drastically bringing down illicit activity at the crossing points. But the border that’s ‘open,’ he claims, is still leaving the U.S. vulnerable.

‘Over 300 known or suspected terrorists crossed into this country last year illegally, known or suspected terrorists – not illegals, not just illegals – known or suspected terrorists,’ Patel said. He concluded: ’85 percent of them came in through the northern border.’
