During a recent outing to a World Series baseball game, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were captured on camera smiling, despite receiving a mixed reception from the audience. The couple, who were enjoying a date night at Los Angeles’ Dodgers Stadium, appeared on the large video screen from their premium seats. As they appeared on the stadium’s kiss-cam, the crowd’s reaction was a blend of boos and cheers from the 56,000 sports fans present. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex managed the situation with composure, maintaining smiles and keeping their gaze steady.
A spectator shared on social media, “Prince Harry and Meghan Markle just appeared on the big screen and the crowd booed them! I’d be devastated if that happened to me.” This incident followed some discontent among fans, who were displeased with the couple’s prime seating to watch the LA Dodgers face off against the Toronto Blue Jays. Positioned in the front row, directly behind the pitch clock, these sought-after seats typically come with a hefty price tag in the tens of thousands of dollars. Video footage from the game shows Harry and Meghan exchanging fist bumps with basketball legend and part-owner of the Dodgers, Magic Johnson, who was notably seated in the second row.
It’s uncertain whether Harry and Meghan paid for these exclusive seats or were hosted as VIP guests by the team. The arrangement quickly sparked reactions from fans, many of whom were upset that the couple received such privileged treatment. One social media user remarked, “Magic Johnson is royalty,” emphasizing the NBA legend’s stature. Additionally, some fans expressed surprise that Meghan wasn’t backing the Toronto Blue Jays, given her history of living in Toronto while filming “Suits.” Meghan has previously been seen sporting Blue Jays gear, including a widely shared image of her wearing a team cap.
‘It is like my home,’ Meghan told Best Health magazine when speaking about Toronto in 2015. ‘At the onset, I didn’t know what to expect, but everyone has been so welcoming.’ Prince Harry, meanwhile, also has a deep connection with Canada. He trained with the country’s forces during his time in the military, and Canada is part of the Commonwealth, as it was once under British rule. Another local legend who was sat behind Harry and Meghan was four-time World Series winner and Hall of Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax. On social media, one fan wrote: ‘Prince Harry and his wife sitting IN FRONT of Sandy Koufax? Un-fn-real. #WorldSeries #Dodgers’. Another added: ‘Why the hell are they in front of Sandy?’, while a third noted: ‘They need to leave.’
Prior to the game, MLB posted a clip of a smiling Harry and Meghan greeting fans as they made their way into the stadium, flanked by security on the way to their seats. And it didn’t take long for Harry and Meghan to be shown on the big screen to the sold-out crowd. According to one X user, fans inside the stadium ‘seemed decidedly nonplussed’ about the celebrity guests in attendance. On social media, though, many were pleased to see the famous couple, with one writing that it had given the game ‘the Royal seal of approval’. ‘Love seeing global icons reppin’ LA!’ another added. ‘Dodgers uniting the world one hat at a time.’ Meghan’s appearance at the game comes just a day after she announced she hopes her daughter Lilibet becomes a young activist – even though she is only four. The Duchess of Sussex expressed her admiration for 15-year-old Avery Colvert, the founder of Altadena Girls – an organisation set up to support teen girls in the aftermath of the wildfires in southern California. Meghan and Harry have been big supporters of the group since it launched, having made donations to Altadena Teen Girls Fire Recovery through their Archewell Foundation in January. They also volunteered with Ms Colvert and her organisation at the time.
Speaking of the young activist’s work, Meghan said: ‘You never thought your work would grow to be this big. And even if it hadn’t, it still would have been meaningful and made an impact. My goodness, if our daughter turns out to be anything like you, I’ll be the proudest mom.’ Meanwhile, this week the Duchess also launched her first Christmas collection with As Ever – including a $64 candle paying tribute to her wedding to Prince Harry. She took to Instagram on Tuesday to unveil the range in a clip showing the mother-of-two decking the halls in an olive green dress, making desserts with her fruit preserves and glazing a turkey with one of her honeys. Meghan’s festive collection includes new products, such as two candles inspired by her wedding date and her August 4 birthday and a 2021 Vintage Napa Valley Brut, costing $89.
Adding to her range of fruit spreads, Meghan has also launched a new strawberry flavour, which comes as part of the Signature Fruit Spread Gift set, priced at $42, alongside a jar of orange marmalade and raspberry. The new gift set comes in an As Ever box – a seemingly sharp U-turn from the former individual spread packaging, which drew comparisons to a ‘perfume’ or ‘candle’ package online, leaving people baffled. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s visit to the big game also comes just days after they shared photos of their trip to a pumpkin patch with Archie and Lilibet. The footage was notable given it was perhaps the most intimate glimpse Meghan has given into her children and their new life in LA.
In a clip shared to Instagram, the Duchess of Sussex was seen with Prince Harry and their two children on an outing to Lane Farms in Santa Barbara, and afterwards carving their Halloween decorations at home. While Meghan usually obscures her children’s faces by only photographing them from behind, her latest video offered fans a peek at their features as they ran around while Prince Harry worked on his pumpkin. Meghan’s reel also showcased Harry’s cheeky side and featured her mother Doria Ragland and close friend Markus Anderson. Markus is often affectionately referred to as Meghan’s ‘second husband’ because of their close bond over many years. He’s been by Meghan’s side more than ever in recent months – accompanying her to Disneyland and Paris Fashion Week – with his latest invitation to the Sussexes’ Montecito mansion confirming his position in their inner circle.
