Nicole Kidman is spending a small fortune each month to live in a stately London home – and her husband Keith Urban is nowhere in sight.

The 58-year-old actress has been in England to shoot the sequel to Practical Magic, living in a lavish mansion in Hampstead that was previously owned by pop icon Boy George.

Reportedly, this grand estate is costing the Moulin Rouge star £65,000 ($AU132,000) per month, and her husband of 19 years, Keith Urban, has yet to be seen there.

Though filming in the UK for the Practical Magic sequel has now concluded, Nicole is reportedly ‘settling in’ to the ‘dream home,’ according to Woman’s Day.

‘They do strive to talk every day when they’re apart, but it’s surprising how much they’ve been apart since Nicole’s mom passed away last September,’ an insider revealed to the publication.

The source added the actress’ living arrangement was raising eyebrows among the community.

‘It’s like they both went their separate ways. Now she’s getting comfortable in a dream home in London on the other side of the world,’ they added.

Her country singer husband is currently travelling across the US and Canada with his High and Alive tour until the middle of October – and so won’t be able to join his wife for some time.

‘No one knows how long they can put up with this situation as they’ve always been diligent about not spending more than two weeks apart. Clearly that’s not the case anymore,’ the insider added.

Nicole’s English property gained notoriety in 1986 when Michael Rudetsky, 27, was found slumped in the living room at Boy George’s ‘Gothic pile’ – and it later emerged he had taken heroin.

His death hit the Culture Club singer, who was fighting a drug habit at the same time, hard.

But the mansion’s controversial past doesn’t seem to have put Nicole off living there.

A source said: ‘If you put aside what must’ve gone on in that house over the years, it is stunning, in a beautiful location and it has lots of space.

‘It’s made for a Hollywood star. It’s close to Hampstead Heath, which is a draw for stars used to living in America.’

The property boasts five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a cinema, a roof terrace and a meditation room.

Despite it holding bad memories for him, Boy George, 64 – real name George O’Dowd – continued to live in the house until 2022 when he put it up for sale for over $30 million.

The mansion was built in 1868 for engineer and developer Edward Gotto, who added wings on either side of the property.

Over the subsequent decades, the house was subdivided into several different properties.

In 2015, singer Sam Smith bought the house next door, later selling it to George, who began an ambitious three-year renovation project.

The properties were brought together to form one large house, and the footprint expanded with a huge kitchen and breakfast room leading into the garden.

George clashed with Camden Council over plans for a glazed extension and to remove trees to bring in more light to the property.

The renowned property even featured on an episode of the Channel 4 series Selling Super Houses in 2023.
