Beyoncé‘s got a fan in Tyler Perry!
The director of Straw recently joined Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos on an episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, where Ripa pointed out their mutual admiration for the “Crazy in Love” artist.
“And you’ve been to the new concert, which I haven’t been to,” she admitted, referring to Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour.
Perry teased, “You haven’t been? What is wrong with you? You are banned!”
Although Ripa mentioned that she “was out of town” during Beyoncé’s performance, viewers got to see a clip showing Perry attending the concert. In the footage, Perry wore a cowboy hat and was seen dancing alongside Tina Knowles, Beyoncé’s mother.
Consuelos chimed in, “What stadium is that?”
Perry replied, “I think that’s in Chicago. So yeah, I started in L.A.”
Ripa asked, “So you’re traveling around?”
Perry teased, “I’m a background singer.”
In a playful exchange, Ripa remarked, “she doesn’t know it,” to which Perry humorously responded, “She doesn’t know it, but I’m the background singer from the audience singing everything with her.”
As for how many Beyoncé concerts he’s been to, Perry teased, “All of them.”
Ripa told Perry, “I gotta jump on your plane.”
Perry replied, “Yeah c’mon, let’s go.”
Ripa continued, “That’s what I need to do. I need to get on your plane.”
Perry joked, “I think she thought I was stalking her at one point because she was in Copenhagen. She was like, ‘This is Denmark. What are you doing here?’ ‘You’re playing, I’m here. Let’s go watch!’”
Ripa gushed, “I love that!”
On the topic of his cowboy hat, Perry said that he does not sport it during every show.
Ripa asked, “Why not? I love a cowboy hat.”
After he chuckled, Perry quipped, “Do you know how hard it is to find a cowboy hat for this size head? So I got one, and that’s it.”
