Carrie Anne Fleming, renowned for her role in the acclaimed fantasy drama “Supernatural,” has passed away at the age of 51. Her passing was confirmed by her co-star Jim Beaver, aged 75, who revealed that she succumbed to complications arising from breast cancer. According to a statement given to Variety on Sunday, Fleming died on February 26 in Sidney, British Columbia, her hometown in Canada. She leaves behind her daughter, Madalyn Rose. Details regarding her memorial service will be shared at a later time. Fleming was cherished for her portrayal of Karen Singer, the wife of Bobby Singer—an integral ally to the Winchester brothers in the series.
My Heart Has Broken Twice
In a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, Beaver described Fleming as his “soul mate,” despite the geographical distance that often separated them. He expressed that they shared a profound love for each other. “Finding a soulmate is miraculous enough once in a lifetime, but to experience it twice is almost beyond belief,” he reflected in a moving post. “To love and be loved is a precious gift, and sometimes, if we’re lucky, we receive such gifts more than once.” Beaver elaborated on the unique bond they shared, marveling at the depth of understanding and acceptance they found in each other, something he considered a rare blessing.

Beaver further shared the emotional impact of losing a soulmate, having previously endured the pain of losing his child’s mother, Cecily, to cancer. Now, he faces the same heartache with Fleming’s passing. “Carrie Anne Fleming was cast as my wife on Supernatural during my fifth season, and I instantly fell for her,” he recounted. “To my amazement, she felt the same.” Their unexpected connection began with what Beaver described as a “meet cute” moment. During their first encounter on set, they discovered a surprising coincidence—both had daughters named Madeline Rose. This serendipitous revelation sparked a deep friendship. “We spent hours rehearsing lines and talking, and the chemistry between us was palpable,” he fondly remembered.
Beaver called Fleming ‘a powerhouse of vitality and goodwill and amazingly good nature, with a rapturous laugh and an utterly adorable personality that didn’t seem to have an off switch. I was so in love I think my eyes turned silver. She seemed to think I was worth hanging around with, too. We shot Supernatural in Canada, where she lived. I live in Southern California. The geographic and legal ramifications of those facts, particularly as pertains to child custody, kept us both physically and matrimonially apart, though we remedied the first when we could and, I’m sure, at some point we would have remedied the latter if it had been possible.’ ‘As it was, we just loved each other as best we could. There were others, for both of us, but always there was the bond we had started with. Had certain laws and maps been different, I’m not sure I would have been able to love anyone else.’
He went on to say that Fleming ‘got me like only one other person really, truly ever has. Except for my love for her, I’m not sure if I would have been good for her. But she was terribly good for me.’ ‘I lost Cecily to cancer in 2004. Thursday, I lost Carrie to the same disease. I never thought my heart could break so badly more than once. But it has. But, oh, the two torches I carry – what bright, bright light they shed.’ Fleming came to prominence after landing a guest role on Supernatural, which ran for 15 seasons from 2005 to 2020. The series starred Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester and Jensen Ackles as his brother Dean Winchester. The brothers — whose father John Winchester was played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan — hunted supernatural creatures across the country. Following their father’s death, Bobby became a surrogate father figure for Sam and Dean, and they later learned about his tragic past, including the loss of his wife Karen, who had been possessed by a demon. After her death, Karen continued to appear in flashbacks.
Fleming’s other notable roles include iZombie, Smallville, Good Luck Chuck, The L Word, Married Life and Supergirl. Born on August 16, 1974, in Digby, Nova Scotia, Fleming attended Mount Douglas Senior Secondary in Victoria, British Columbia, and studied drama at the Kaleidoscope Theatre as well as the Kidco Theatre Dance Company. Her early roles included an uncredited appearance in Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore, as well as a role in Viper. In 2005 she was cast in Dario Argento’s show Masters of Horror, where she starred as a disfigured woman with cannibalistic urges. She went on to star in other horror shows, including Bloodsuckers and The Tooth Fairy. More recently Fleming played Candy Baker on five seasons of the CW’s iZombie. She also appeared in the 2015 TV film The Unauthorized Full House Story, which explored the behind-the-scenes making of the hit sitcom. Fleming played the mother of Full House star Candace Cameron Bure, who portrayed D.J. Tanner on the show. Fleming also performed in a number of British Columbia stage productions, including Steel Magnolias, Noises Off, and Romeo and Juliet.
