This Morning viewers were incredulous as a woman on the ITV show insisted she was unaware of her pregnancy until she delivered her baby in a bathroom.
On Wednesday’s episode, Helen and Michael Green from Bristol spoke with hosts Cat Deeley, aged 48, and Ben Shepherd, aged 50, about the unexpected birth of their daughter Olivia.
The family, including their older daughter Darcy, embarked on a 10-day road trip in Canada. However, their journey extended to five weeks after Helen unexpectedly gave birth in the hotel bathroom.
Helen explained: ‘I felt a bit unwell on the airplane on the flight over, but put it aside, thought maybe it was period pains…
‘We arrived in Canada around 3:30 PM and checked into our hotel at 5:30 PM. I wasn’t feeling well, so Michael and Darcy decided to explore the area for food, while I took a nap.
After waking up feeling perfectly fine, I began unpacking. When Michael and Darcy returned, I thought, “Let’s head out and see the sights.”

Viewers were shocked at her claim of not knowing about the pregnancy until childbirth occurred.

Wednesday’s instalment of the programme saw Helen and Michael Green, from Bristol, chat to presenters Cat Deeley , 48, and Ben Shepherd, 50, about the arrival of their baby girl Olivia

The pair, and older daughter Darcy, travelled to Canada for a 10 day road trip, which ended up turning into a five week one after Helen gave birth in their hotel bathroom – and the story left hosts Cat and Ben (pictured) lost for words
‘Darcy complained that she was tired, understandable. She’d had a long flight. Michael had said “Look, it’s raining quite badly outside, so let’s stay in”.
‘We stayed in room, they went to sleep… I wasn’t so tired because I’d had a nap. Fell asleep eventually, about quarter to two in the morning, I just woke up with really bad stomach pains, really bad stomach pains.
‘Went and got up, went to the bathroom, the lights were all off, I didn’t want to wake Michael and Darcy at all.
‘Walked into bathroom, just sort of, when you walk into the bathroom, the sink is on the left in a unit, I gripped onto side, I felt like my legs were going to go, all of a sudden my body said “push” and my body just took over, a big push…
‘I wasn’t sure what was happening, I thought I kind of know this.. I’ve had two other children, so been through that. Then I went and sat down on the loo, I thought if this is happening, I don’t want anything to… it just felt the safest place to be.
‘Again, body said push. One big push and she was out!’
Michael explained that he heard Helen calling his name, as well as a baby crying, but thought that it may have been a baby that was in the hallway or was next door.
Cat was desperate to know what he said when he saw Helen holding baby Olivia, to which he said: ‘I think her name kind of says it all – the initials.

Helen explained: ‘I wasn’t sure what was happening, I thought I kind of know this.. I’ve had two other children, so been through that. Then I went and sat down on the loo, I thought if this is happening, I don’t want anything to… it just felt the safest place to be’
‘So it’s Olivia Maple Florence Green… that was my reaction. Then I it felt like forever, it felt a long time, but rang for a paramedic.’
He added: ‘I genuinely thought it was a dream. When I first heard the baby cry, I’m just having a dream…’
Cat was also interested to know if there was anything at all that made her think that she may have been expecting.
Helen said: ‘No. None that I felt at all (movement).
‘When we were taken to the hospital, they had difficulty removing the placenta, so they think that may have masked her movements. Maybe.
‘I’d carried on, I’d been bleeding throughout. I’m 45. I’ve always been fairly irregular.
‘I kind of put anything down to peri-menopause. There was nothing to make me think… everything had just carried on as normal.’
Ben asked if they were worried about her health, considering that she carried on life as normal.
Helen said: ‘We were worried. Obviously I’m not a huge drinker but I enjoy a glass of wine or two.
‘I don’t smoke but I had been very active throughout, I was literally, a couple of hours before she was born, carrying the suitcases up the subway station stairs.
‘I didn’t know anything that was happening!’
Luckily all the tests are normal.
Many watching at home couldn’t believe it and took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their confusion.
‘No way could you have something that size inside you without knowing… #ThisMorning.’
‘I cannot understand how anyone does not know there pregnant.’
‘Hard to believe she didn’t recognise labour pains being her third. Did she have to buy another ticket to fly home… all good wishes to them. No milk bottles, nappies horrendous #thismorning.’

Those watching at home were left lost for words when they listened to Helen’s incredible birth story – but many couldn’t believe it
‘There are many, many things about this that simply don’t add up.’
‘Your periods must be completely out of sync if you had no inkling for 9 months.’
‘I can’t comprehend how a woman doesn’t know she is pregnant. #ThisMorning.’
‘What do you mean you didn’t know what was happening, yes you did.’
‘Never experienced childbirth but I would imagine labour pain is a bit more intense than ‘stomach pain’… #ThisMorning.’
‘How can you not know you’re pregnant????’
‘You thought it was period pains, and didn’t think – ‘funny, I’ve not had a period for quite a while’?! #ThisMorning.’
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
