The United Kingdom’s Parliament has asked Elon Musk to testify about his plans to buy Twitter.
Parliament’s digital committee is hoping Musk will speak “in more depth” about purchasing the social media platform and what changes he’d implement as its owner.

However, Musk said it’s too early in the process to speak about (Musk’s purchase of Twitter is still months away from being official).
“I am honored and thank the Parliament for their invitation, but it would be premature at this time to accept, given that there has not yet been a shareholder vote,” he said in reply to Parliament’s request.

The committee said it’s eager to discuss with Musk his idea of authenticating users of the platform as a way to reduce spam accounts.

Parliament is currently weighing an online safety law that would give the government powers to crack down on social media abusers, including a provision that would allow verified users to avoid non-verified users.
“At a time when social media companies face the prospect of tighter regulations around the world, we’re keen to learn more about how Mr. Musk will balance his clear commitment to free speech with new obligations to protect Twitter’s users from online harms,” committee chair Julian Knight said.
The request for Musk’s appearance comes the same day the Tesla CEO said there may be fees associated with Twitter accounts in the future, including those belonging to governments and businesses.
