                                      John Joel Joseph Biography

Who is John Joel Joseph ?

John Joel Joseph was arrested in Jamaica on Saturday.

The Haitian National Police said Saturday that a former senator wanted in the July 7, 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Moïse has been arrested in Jamaica.

Police spokesman Gary Desrosiers told The Associated Press that John Joel Joseph was in custody. No further information was immediately available.

Meanwhile, the Jamaican police superintendent. Stephanie Lindsay told the AP that other people were arrested along with Joseph and that authorities were trying to determine if they were relatives. She said they were arrested before dawn on Saturday and declined to share any other details.

“For more than one reason, we don’t share more information,” she said.

Joseph is a Haitian politician and opponent of the Tèt Kale party to which Moïse belonged.

John Joel Joseph Suspect

“One more suspect has been arrested. One more chance to shed light on my husband’s murder,” tweeted Martine Moïse, the wife of the late president, who was injured in the shooting.

John Joel Joseph is the second suspect arrested in Jamaica. In late October, Jamaican authorities arrested former Colombian soldier Mario Antonio Palacios Palacios, whom US authorities had interviewed while he was in hiding.

Palacios was recently extradited to the United States and was awaiting a court hearing after being charged with conspiracy to commit murder or kidnapping outside the US He carried out the conspiracy to kill or kidnap.

“In Haiti or anywhere else, the pursuit of the wanted must continue so that all sponsors and perpetrators of this heinous crime are punished.”

An unpublished police report obtained by the AP cited multiple sources as saying that Joseph had multiple ties to the attack, with at least one identifying him as a leader.

John Joel Joseph Arrested and Charged

Sources said Joseph paid cash for rental cars used by the attackers and had met with other suspects before the killing, including Christian Emmanuel Sanon, a Haitian businessman and evangelical pastor who had expressed a desire to lead his country. Associates have suggested that Sanon was duped by the real masterminds of the murder. He was arrested shortly after the murder.

The report also indicated that the former senator introduced other suspects to Joseph Badio, an alleged leader of the plot who previously worked for the Haitian Ministry of Justice and the government’s anti-corruption unit until he was fired.

He said phone records show that James Solages, a Haitian-American arrested in the case, had a WhatsApp conversation with Joseph about preparations for the mission. And he said Solages told authorities that Joseph, Badio and Rodolphe Jaar, a Haitian citizen and former US government informant arrested Jan. 7 in the Dominican Republic, were among the designated leaders of the operation.

Badio remains at large, while Dominican authorities say Jaar was arrested there at the request of US authorities.

Among those celebrating the arrest was Claude Joseph, Haiti’s former foreign minister, who briefly served as interim prime minister after Moïse’s death.

“The arrest of John Joel Joseph demonstrates that there will be no hiding place for those directly or indirectly involved in the murder,” he wrote, saying the international effort he initiated continues to bear fruit.

More than 40 people, including 18 former Colombian soldiers, have been arrested in the killing of Moïse, who was shot multiple times at his private residence in an attack that also wounded his wife.

Colombian government officials have said that most of the former soldiers were misled and did not know about the real mission. Soldiers, who remain in prison in Haiti, accused authorities of torture, while the Colombian government recently said the country’s consul in Haiti was threatened after trying to provide humanitarian assistance.
