WWE NXT Great American Bash Results: Winners, News And Notes From Night 2

WWE NXT Great American Bash, Night 2, featured a fantastic—if not spoiled—main event as Keith Lee defeated Adam Cole to win the WWE NXT Championship. Lee has become the first NXT Superstar to hold the promotion’s top two singles titles simultaneously.

WWE NXT defeated AEW Fyter Fest for a second consecutive week with 792,000 viewers to 746,000 for AEW. NXT is seeking its first three-week win streak of the Wednesday Night Wars.

WWE NXT TakeOver: In Your House Results—Wednesday, July 8, 2020

Candice LeRae def. Mia Yim—Street Fight

For a Street Fight, these women worked aggressively hard to stay inside.

Wearing Tims during a street fight is on brand for Mia Yim if not beating you over the head with her gimmick.

I was really hoping somebody would try to use one of the vintage vehicles in a match with no rules.

Bronson Reed def. Tony Nese

Feeding Bronson Reed to Karrion Kross instead of building to a pay-per-view match was a mistake. This man is so talented.

Tony Nese has been on the WWE roster for years now and I still have know idea who he is.

Is it that hard to have Tony Nese body shame fellow PC athletes for a few weeks before finally running into Reed?

Johnny Gargano def. Isaiah “Swerve” Scott

Johnny Gargano scoring the winning pinfall was a deflating finish as everybody could see this result from a mile away.

Unless you consider “One Final Beat” a great match (I don’t), it’s been quite some time since Johnny Gargano’s last great match.

El Legado Del Phantasma def. Drake Maverick and Breezango

These announcers have got to move on from Drake Maverick crying to get his job back. He’s too talented for that to be his legacy.

El Legado Del Phantasma is becoming such a fun trio to watch.

Mercedes Martinez def. Santana Garrett

Despite this result, and based on how Vince McMahon thinks, Santana Garrett has a much brighter future in WWE than Mercedes Martinez.

This may have been by design, but Mercedes Martinez reminds me of Shayna Baszler, which bodes well for NXT, but bad for the main roster.

Keith Lee def. Adam Cole—Champion vs. Champion for NXT Championship and NXT North American Championship

This match was so weird to watch on a Wednesday instead of a Sunday, but boy these two brought their pay-per-view energy to this match.

I’m all for a slick Vince Carter reference but to suggest anybody other than Carter or Nas be nicknamed “Half Man, Half Amazing” is insanity.

WWE, and Keith Lee’s Twitter account are on a mission to run Keith Lee puns into the damn ground.

The crowd (and the plexiglass) worked very hard to will this into a very good match.

Keith Lee’s celebration was even better the second time. He should not lose the NXT Championship until he’s called up.
