Mark Allen Mothersbaugh Wiki Biography

Mark Allen Mothersbaugh was born on 18 May 1950, in Akron, Ohio USA, and is a composer, record producer, singer, songwriter and author, best known from his music career spanning over four decades. He was the lead singer of the new wave band Devo and helped create iconic songs such as “Whip It”. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

How rich is Mark Mothersbaugh? As of early-2017, sources estimate a net worth that is over $5 million, mostly earned through a successful career in the music industry which began in the early ‘70s. He’s also well known for contributing music to various other projects including television series, video games, and films, all of which have helped ensure the position of his wealth.

Mark Mothersbaugh Net Worth $5 million

Mark attended Kent State University, and while studying there would meet the eventual co-founders of Devo. Eventually, he along with Gerald Casale and Bob Lewis would create the band, and they released the hit single “Whip It” and have since maintained a cult following. They were given a contract by Warner Bros. and would release six albums before being dropped, resultin in drummer Alan Myers leaving the band and the band cancelling a tour.

Afterwards, Mothersbaugh ventured into composing, working on “Pee-wee Playhouse”. In 1987, the band reformed and would then release new albums including “Total Devo”. Four years later, the band broke up again, and Mark would create the music production studio called Mutato Musika. He continued to work on his career as a composer, then working on projects such as “Rugrats” and the films of director Wes Anderson.

In 2006, a project known as Devo 2.0 was started thanks to the help of Disney. It led to a new album four years later called “Something for Everybody”, for which the band was awarded the Moog Innovator Award during Moogfest 2010. Other work Mothersbaugh has been a part of include feature films such as “Rushmore” and “The Lego Movie”, and he also wrote the new theme song for “Felix the Cat”, and the theme song for “The Sims 2”. He composed theme music for “Regular Show”, “Eureka”, “Crash Bandicoot”, and “Jak and Daxter” too, all adding to his net worth.

Mark has also drawn popularity and an increase in net worth from his work as a visual artist. He’s done over 150 art gallery shows, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver had an exhibition which showcased his art and music. He also produced a drawing segment for the television series “Yo Gabba Gabba!”, and was subsequently rewarded with the Richard Kirk award for his contributions to film and television music. He was also given an honorary doctorate from Kent State University, and was awarded the key to the city of Akron.

For his personal life, it is known that Mark married actress Nancye Ferguson but their marriage eventually ended. He is now married to Anita Greenspan and they have two children, one of whom is adopted. Mothersbaugh wears glasses due to severe astigmatism and myopia. He has since designed his own frames and has collaborated to release these signature frames. He is also a collector of song/poems, vintage and unusual musical devices.

Fact
1 Formed “Mutato Muzika” in the early Nineties. They score television and films.
2 The 4 central members of Devo re-united in 2006 or 2007 and toured through the next few years. In 2010, they released their first album together (“Something for Everybody”) in 20 years.
3 He is a skilled multi-instrumentalist who can be heard playing a wide variety of instruments on his soundtracks and on Devo songs. He was primarily the “lead” keyboard player and lead singer in Devo, but can heard playing guitar and various other (including experimental) instruments on Devo tracks.
4 Uncle of Alex Mothersbaugh.
5 Invited to join AMPAS in 2005.
6 Despite that the suggestion his thick glasses are a stage image, he needs them badly to see and has been severely near-sighted his whole life, so much so that he was nearly declared legally blind as a child.
7 Long after the break-up of his band Devo, Mothersbaugh has gone on to become one of Hollywood’s most respect film composers, having done the musical scores to all of Wes Anderson’s scored films and the theme from the TV show, Rugrats (1990), among others. He employs most of his former Devo bandmates for these projects.
8 Videos for songs such as “Whip It”, “Freedom of Choice”, “Satisfaction”, “Love without Anger”, “Beautiful World”, and “Through Bein’ Cool” were staples of MTV’s rotation in its early months on the air. Some of those videos can be seen today on the digital-cable channel VH1 Classics.
9 Son of Robert Mothersbaugh Sr.
10 Brother of Robert Mothersbaugh and Jim Mothersbaugh.
11 Accomplished gallery artist whose paintings and drawings are popular in the “low brow” school of art (Richard Williams, Todd Shore, Coop, etc.). Some of his paintings have incorporated floresecent pigments in luminescent (glow-in-the-dark) base.
12 Lead singer of Devo.
