Investigators searching for 2-year-old girl missing after her father was found in a truck submerged in a river say the little girl was not in or beneath the vehicle when they pulled it out of the water.

Emma and Jeremy Sweet were reported missing Thursday after they were last seen on Wednesday night, as CrimeOnline previously reported. On Friday, duck hunters found Jeremy Sweet in his pickup truck in the White River in Bartholomew County.

Sweet has been hospitalized with hypothermia and has reportedly told investigators that Emma was with him, but searchers have found only a coat believed to belong to the girl downstream.

The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office said detectives are conducting a ground and river search for the little girl, with several area police and fire departments assisting.

“All of the agencies have been working together for the common goal of which is to find Emma and bring her home to her family,” said Sheriff Matt Myers.

The sheriff’s office said Friday that Jeremy Sweet was out on bond for unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and possession of methamphetamine.

The sheriff’s office said Emma was last seen wearing all black with a cream-colored jacket with butterflies on it. They did not say if that was the coat found in the river.

Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts should call Bartholomew County police at 812-379-1650.
