Lauren attended Los Alamitos High School, and later Orange County High School of the Arts. After matriculating, she would then go to the University of Southern California to study anthropology.

German would then fully pursue an acting career, finding work on stage in productions of “Oliver” and “Peter Pan”. She found her break into films in 2000, when she made her debut in the romantic comedy “Down to You” in which she had a small role, starring Freddie Prinze, Jr. and Julia Stiles. German’s first major role would come two years later when she became the co-star of “A Walk to Remember” alongside Mandy Moore, based on the Nicholas Sparks novel of the same name. In the film, she plays the character Belinda whom Shane West’s character breaks up with. German would then find more film opportunities, increasing her net worth, as a part of “Dead Above Ground” and “A Midsummer Night’s Rave”. She was also cast in the television movie “The Lone Ranger”, which was an attempt to revive the “Lone Ranger” franchise. In 2003 she auditioned for a starring role in “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, but was given another role, the main role going to Jessica Biel; the film is a remake of the 1974 horror film of the same name.

Lauren’s next projects would be “Born Killers” and “Rx”, then in 2005 she would then become a part of the romantic comedy “Standing Still” playing a lesbian, before being cast in “It is Fine! Everything Is Fine” which is an independent film directed by Crispin Glover. Her next role was in the musical “What We Do Is Secret”, alongside Shane West, about the singer Darby Crash and the punk rock band the Germs, portraying The Go-Go’s singer Belinda Carlisle. Afterwards, Lauren starred in “Hostel: Part II” which is a Quentin Tarantino film, directed by Eli Roth, and which is known for its graphic, gory portrayals. She would then star in “Divide” before becoming a part of the second season of “Hawaii Five-0”, in which she played agent Lori Weston. In 2012, for two seasons she joined the cast of “Chicago Fire” as Leslie Shay. One of Lauren’s latest project is the series “Lucifer”, in which she appears alongside Tom Ellis, and is based on the comic book of the same name. All of these opportunities continued to build Lauren’s net worth.

For her personal life, it is known that German had a relationship with baseball player Barry Zito, and was also involved in an affair with Ashton Holmes. Following her appearance in the film “Standing Still” she was also rumored to be gay, though nothing has come from this rumor.
