Despite the money, Laundrie allegedly used his dead girlfriend’s debit cards after killing her

A notebook found near Brian Laundrie’s remains in late October may be given to his parents, who reportedly filed a petition earlier this month to claim their late son’s assets.

On December 8, Chris and Roberta Laundrie filed a motion in Sarasota County to become administrators of Brian Laundrie’s estate — which includes a notebook that reveals he had $20,000 in his bank account, according to The Sun.

According to Radar, Chris and Roberta Laundrie said in court documents that their son had $20,000 in a Bank of America account. They also said he was debt-free when he reportedly took his own life.

Court documents also stated that Brian Laundrie, 23, died intestate, meaning he did not have a will. His parents submitted his death certificate to the court, and also provided information about his bank accounts and property, The Sun reported.

According to The Sun, the full contents of the notebook found near Brian Laundrie’s remains may never be made public. However, the news outlet suggested Chris and Roberta Laundrie learned of the money from his notebook.

Meanwhile, Gabrielle Petito’s mother has filed a claim to get her daughter’s items from Chris and Roberta Laundrie’s home, where she resided with her late boyfriend. The Laundries’ attorney, Steven Bertolino, described the filing as “a formality,” and said the parents are making arrangements to return Petito’s belongings to her family, The Sun reported.

In late October, Brian Laundrie’s partial skull was found at Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in Florida. The following month, the medical examiner in Sarasota County determined he died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

Brian Laundrie, who was named a person of interest in Petito’s initial disappearance and murder, is believed to have left his parents’ North Port, Florida, home on September 13 or 14. His parents reported him missing on September 17, the same day they reportedly informed law enforcement of the missing gun.

At the time Brian Laundrie vanished, he was wanted for the unauthorized use of a debit card for allegedly withdrawing $1,000 between August 30 and September 1 — when Petito, 22, was missing. He reportedly arrived in Florida on September 1 without Petito, and Petito’s family reported her missing on September 11.

Petito reportedly spoke to her mother over a video chat for the last time on August 23 or 24, when she said she and Brian Laundrie were leaving Utah and driving to Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, where she was found strangled weeks later.
