A popular Maryland high school teacher died in a classroom where she was working late on Wednesday night.

ABC7 news reports that Cheryl Mitchell was found dead in a classroom on Wednesday, discovered by a passerby who alerted authorities to an unresponsive person.

Mitchell was a social studies teacher at High Point High School in Beltsville, Maryland, and was beloved by her students..

She was “a dedicated teacher invested in the lives of the school community always wanted to make sure there was a great deal of balance on equity and inclusion,” Principal Dr. Lori Taylor said in a statement to the news station.

Mitchell is believed to have died from natural causes, according to the report.

“Today we lost an amazing educator,”  said Jesse Belarde, head of the High Point Social Studies department. “She was one who connected with students through her love for learning.”

Authorities have not yet commented on the teacher’s cause of death or any previous health conditions. There is no indication of foul play.
