A Colorado judge has ruled that Barry Morphew be tried for his wife’s alleged murder in a neighboring county, due to overwhelming public and media interest in the disappearance and presumed death of Suzanne Morphew.

The Denver Post reports that Morphew’s murder trial will now take place in Fremont County after a judge determined that Morphew could not receive a fair trial in Chaffee County, due to the widespread interest and familiarity with the case. Suzanne Morphew vanished on Mother’s Day in 2021 and Barry Morphew was arrested for her murder a year later. As CrimeOnline previously reported, cell phone and computer data showed that Suzanne was having an affair at the time of her death and was unhappy in her marriage to Barry, with whom she shares two daughters in their late teens and early twenties.

According to the Denver Post, the trial will begin on May 3 in Cañon City, the Fremont County seat. Patrick Frazee, the convicted killer in another well-known Colorado murder case, is currently in custody in Fremont County. He was convicted of killing his daughter’s mother, Kelsey Berreth, in Teller County in 2018. Berreth’s body was never found.

CrimeOnline will provide further updates when more information is avaialable.
