Early Life and Education: Growing up in San Diego

Betsy was raised in her birthplace by her father Richard Leon Russell, who was a stock analyst and economist, and her mother Constance Russell (nee Lerner), of a still unknown profession. However, her maternal grandfather’s name overshadows her own, since the man in question is Max Lerner, a celebrated author and syndicated columnist, journalist and educator. Regarding siblings, she has three sisters and a brother of still unspecified names, ages and professions.

What all sources claim for sure about Betsy’s early childhood, is that she has had a strong passion for acting from the age of eight, and that she tried her utmost to enter the world of drama as soon as she could. While attending Mission Bay High School, from where she matriculated in 1981, she was actually cast in a Pepsi commercial – though never credited – and it is thought that this single event greatly bolstered her resolve early on. She thereafter moved to Los Angeles to take acting classes, but meanwhile she also pursued her education further, by studying spiritual psychology at the University of Santa Monica, from where she graduated in 1985. Not long afterwards, Betsy also obtained certificates in life coaching and hypnosis.

Career: An entrancing performer

Besides the mentioned Pepsi commercial, Betsy’s first credited role was in 1982, in a single episode of the TV series entitled “The Powers of Matthew Star”, in which she appeared as Dawn. In the same year she appeared as another two unnamed characters, in “T.J. Hooker” and “Family Ties”, meanwhile making her film debut as well with the role of Kittie in “Let’s Do It!”. 1983 and 1984 were relatively quiet for Betsy, since she appeared in only two titles in the former year, as Jordan in “Private School”, while the latter year put her in “The A-Team” for a single episode. In 1985, she starred in three titles, and in 1986 again appeared in another episode of “The A-Team”, then in a single episode of “Murder, She Wrote”, and one episode of “1st & Ten” as Christy, with another two in 1987. In 1988, Betsy was seen in just one film, entitled “Cheerleader Camp”. After three more roles in 1989, she remained out of the business for two years, and made her return as Jamie in “Camp Fear” in 1991. Following just two more titles over two years, Betsy gave up acting in 1993.

A terrific return

Besides two appearances in 1995 and one more in 2000, Betsy was almost completely out of the acting business by her own decision – that is until 12 years after she made this choice. She was called by “Saw” producer Mark Burg, and asked to star as the wife of the notorious murderer in the franchise, which she gladly accepted at the time, seeing as “Saw” was already a pretty big deal even before its third part was made, meaning the offer of a character closest to the main one (at least story-wise) would bring her fame. Hence, Betsy continued her career with the film series, starring in “Saw III” in 2006 (a metaphorical 13 years after her self-imposed hiatus), “Saw IV” in 2007, “Saw V” in 2008, “Saw VI” in 2009, and “Saw 3D: The Final Chapter” in 2010. Besides two other titles (one in 2009 and one in 2010), Betsy was only seen as “Saw” wife Jill Tuck until 2011. At that point, she had a role in the short film entitled “I’m a Soap Star”, while in 2012 she starred in the video entitled “Lose Yourself”. After realizing two more roles in 2014, she took another break from acting.

Betsy’s second half of the current decade – What happened to her?

Even though Betsy is not known as one of the most active actresses alive, she is still developing her career. After the said break, she appeared on screen again in 2017, as Dr. Taylor in “Born and Missing”, while in 2018 she gave her voice to Laurie in “Robot Chicken”. This year, or the next, she remains to be seen in an upcoming film (currently in pre-production) entitled “Bully High”, in which she stars as Beth White. This makes for a total of 36 credited roles thus far, and 37 if her Pepsi commercial appearance is included.

Love Life: Betsy Russell’s ex-husband and children, does she have a boyfriend now?

When it comes to Betsy’s romantic involvements, she is generally seen as a private person who keeps such matters away from the public, and thus it is virtually impossible to make a claim about any partner she may have had prior to her husband. Betsy is thought to have started dating actor, writer, producer, tennis player and commentator Vincent Van Patten at some point prior to 1988, in the August of which they got engaged. They married nine months later on the 27th of May 1989 in North Hollywood, which was a public ceremony hosted at Vincent’s father’s (Dick Van Patten) Sherman Oaks home, and attended by various prominent names. Together, they have two sons – Duke Van Patten born in March 1993, and Vince Van Patten, born in September 1995. Following Vince’s birth, Betsy decided to give up acting in order to raise her children. In 2001, she and Vincent filed for divorce due to mysterious irreconcilable differences, and her love life remains unknown thereafter, except for one event. Betsy is known to have dated and even been engaged to “Saw” producer Mark Burg, though the exact years of their relationship are anyone’s guess.

Wife of a famous murderer

By this point, it is needless to say that Betsy’s greatest mark on the world thus far has been her appearance as Jill in the “Saw” franchise. Hence, she was interviewed by numerous media outlets regarding her role. One such conversation was conducted by hollywoodchicago.com in 2010, during which among many things she was asked what the most satisfying fact about being part of the incredibly famous franchise was, to which she replied ‘I was sitting here at my house after just being interviewed by the Los Angeles Times, and just thinking, wow, I just want to take a moment to reflect, this is pretty amazing.’ In the remainder of the interview, she shared more details with the world about her character, though extremely careful not to reveal any spoilers before “Saw 3D: The Final Chapter” came out.

What is Betsy Russell’s Net Worth?

Have you ever taken a moment to consider just how rich Betsy Russell could be, specifically around the middle of 2019? According to the most accurate estimates made by several highly authoritative sources, it is thought that Betsy’s net worth is around $5 million. She made her fortune by lending her acting expertise to numerous titles over the course of her career, most prominently for bringing life to “Saw” murderer mastermind’s ex-wife Jill. Seeing as her acting career is still in development, it can be concluded that the said digit will definitely grow.

Body Measurements

Social Media Presence

As is the case with any other celebrity nowadays, Betsy is publicly expected by both her fans and colleagues to nourish a relatively close relationship with her audiences, especially on social media, which in turn directly contributes to her future earnings by attracting a larger consumer influx towards any title she works on. It is no wonder, then, that Betsy does her best to keep up with this celebrity trend, as she can be considered ubiquitous on all three of the most popular social media networks. Her Facebook page has close to 1,000 fans, her Twitter almost 3,000, and her Instagram more than 5,000 followers.
