He was recently in the headlines after he was arrested and his position as DCP was suspended due to his involvement in criminal activities (drug dealing).

Ramatu Kyari, the wife of DCP Abba Kyari, fainted and slumped at the Federal High Court in Abuja after DCP’s suspension.

In the drug trial, Justice Emeka Nwite deferred the ruling on applications that DCP Kyari and other persons facing drug trafficking charges with him. It is found that Nwite filed to be released on bail pending the determination of the case against them.

While the NDLEA (National Drug Law Enforcement Agency)’s armed operatives were leading Kyari and the others away from the court premises, Ramatu, who could be seen wearing a black Hijab, suddenly and unexpectedly fell on the floor.

After this fainting news got public, it instantly went viral. Following this, many online users took a dig at Abba and his wife Ramatu tweeting that his wife didn’t faint when Abba was busy extorting, torturing & kïlling young Nigerians extrajudicially. Likewise, nothing bad ever happened to Abba’s wife all these years, when he was spending money way beyond his earnings as a policeman.

Some Twitter users even noted that Kyari’s wife slumped because she was shocked to discover that her husband was wealthier than the entire Nigerian police force.

Abba Kyari Charges and Mugshots: Why Was he arrested?

Abba Kyari and his six co-defendants were filed eight charges by NDLEA.

He was arrested because he was declared wanted, following his alleged drug links. He was accused of illegal dealing of drugs (cocaine) between January 19 and 25, 2022 as per Premium Times.

Kyari’s mugshots after he was arrested have not been publicized yet.

During the investigations, the Nigerian Anti-Narcotics Agency, NDLEA traced 1 billion and 400 million nairas to Abba Kyari’s bank account. That’s not all; they also found the trace of  2.8 billion transactions to his deputy ACP Sunday Ubua.

Abba Kyaris’ family includes his parents,  four children, and his siblings aside from his wife.

His brothers are named Usman Kyari and Farouk Kyari and his sister is called Maryam Ibrahim.
