A New York man who was indicted on Tuesday allegedly believed his lover gave him HIV and was cheating on him when he fatally stabbed her last month.

According to the New York Post, David Bonola, 44, told detectives that he believed Orsolya Gaal, 51, who was married, was cheating on him and gave him HIV. He claimed that Gaal was on the phone with another man who she said she was planning to see — which he said he “couldn’t accept.”

“I told her that I just wanted her to tell me the truth about why she gave me HIV. She said she didn’t have HIV,” Bonola allegedly told police.

On April 16, Bonola — who is also married —  got into an argument with Gaal at her Queens home where he allegedly stabbed her 58 times in her basement. He then stuffed her body in her son’s hockey duffel bag and dumped it a half-mile from her home, as CrimeOnline previously reported.

However, Bonola allegedly claimed that Gaal told him their relationship was over before brandishing a knife and threatening to kill him. He told police he then took the knife from Gaal and stabbed her in the neck to stop her from attacking him, the Post reported.

Bonola, who was arrested on April 21, was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, concealment of a human corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. He is due back in court on July 7.
