Suzanne Malveaux has never been diagnosed with any illness. Her mother, however, has ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Thus she is primarily dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the disease.
Suzette M. Malveaux is Suzanne’s twin sister. Suzanne was born in Lansing, Michigan, on December 4, 1966, to a New Orleans-based family.
“The last thing she said verbally to me was ‘be strong’…her spirit—far from being silenced—lives on today through us, and with the member of so many strong women—who fought for a voice.” -Suzanne Malveaux recalling her mother’s advice during her battle with ALS. #sheiskey

Her parents are both Louisiana Creoles. Floyd Joseph Malveaux, her father, was a doctor and dean of Howard University’s College of Medicine, and Myrna Maria Ruiz, her mother, was a schoolteacher.
Malveaux moved back to Washington, D.C., to be closer to her mother, who has ALS. In 2013, Malveaux detailed her mother’s battle with the sickness in a series of CNN segments.
Suzanne Malveaux is currently in Washington, D.C., and works for CNN. Her daughter and Karine Jean-Pierre (an American political campaign organizer, activist, and novelist) live with her.
