A 21-year-old Florida man, who happens to be documented gang member, faces multiple felonies after he threw bags of marijuana out of his car while leading deputies on a pursuit last night.

“This individual put the lives of deputies and the community at risk with his reckless behavior, and thankfully nobody was hurt,” Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said. “Thanks to our brave deputies this individual is in our custody and the drugs we recovered won’t ever be sold in Collier County.”

At about 8:15 p.m. deputies in Collier County, attempted a traffic stop on a Nissan Altima at the intersection of U.S. 41 East and State Road 29. The driver, Cameron Jefffrey Foss, sped up and fled south toward Everglades City at approximately 100 mph. Deputies engaged in a pursuit.

Deputies say Foss continued to drive at high speeds through residential neighborhoods, running stop signs and taking corners without regard for public safety. During the pursuit, Foss threw several large bags of marijuana out the window.

The pursuit ended after Foss swerved to avoid stop sticks that deputies had placed in the road and struck a guardrail causing him to lose control and crash into a tree.

Deputies searched Foss’s vehicle and found multiple bags of marijuana. Deputies also backtracked the 23-mile route of the pursuit and found more bags of marijuana that Foss threw out the window. Deputies recovered a total of 3.5 pounds of marijuana.

The search of Foss’s vehicle also turned up:

  • Multiple bags of different sizes typically used to package narcotics
  • Nine jars of exploding targets
  • 27 rounds of ammunition
  • $1,127 cash
  • Multiple synthetic THC cartridges

Foss, of Everglades City, is a documented gang member in Collier County.

He is currently in the Collier County jail charged with high-speed reckless fleeing and eluding; possession of a controlled substance; possession of marijuana with intent to sell; possession of marijuana over 20 grams; alter/destroy evidence; and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.
