William Haston, who dragged an Ardmore Police Department officer behind his car during a traffic stop, has pleaded guilty to second-degree assault.

Haston will serve two years in jail as part of a plea agreement with 3 years of probation.

The incident occurred in February of 2023 when the Ardmore Police Department officer Brandon Crews pulled Haston over and attempted to arrest him for driving under the influence.

Haston ran back to his car as the Ardmore Police Department officer tried to handcuff him, dragging the Ardmore Police Department officer across the parking lot and running over his leg.

The Ardmore Police Department officer stated that he was determined to prevent Haston from endangering the community by getting back on the road.

The Ardmore Police Department officer was brought to the hospital after sustaining injuries for being dragged by car, and was released after treatment.

After being arrested, Haston was taken to the Limestone County Detention Center. He had multiple warrants against him, and a bond of $11,000 was set, WHNT reported.

Prior to the incident of Haston dragging an Ardmore Police Department officer by car, he was involved in an incident related to the injury of a Madison County deputy during a chase in October 2022.

According to online court records, there have been no significant developments in Haston’s criminal case in Madison County, WHNT added.
