A Wyoming man has been jailed after an alleged argument over infidelity escalated into a series of threats involving a handgun, sword and crossbow, authorities say.
Jesse Ward, 45, faces one felony charge of aggravated assault and battery, along with one misdemeanor count of domestic battery, the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office said.
The reported confrontation took place Saturday night, Oct. 10, according to an affidavit of probable cause obtained by Cowboy State Daily.
Investigators say Ward became angry after accusing a woman of cheating on him. When she attempted to defuse the dispute, the affidavit alleges that Ward grabbed a “Glock 40” and aimed it at her head as she sat on a bed.
A camera inside the bedroom had its lens covered, meaning it captured sound but not images, according to authorities. Deputies later included portions of the recording’s audio in the charging documents.
The affidavit states that Ward could be heard making threats, including, “I’m about ready to kill the evil that’s killing me” and “I’m about ready to f—in’ end you.”
While allegedly keeping the firearm trained on the woman, Ward reportedly said, “I’m about ready to make you eat a bullet” and “I’m about ready to go to prison.” He also allegedly told her, “I will turn around and get handcuffed after I put you out of your misery.”
Authorities say Ward eventually lowered the gun, but the alleged threat continued when he picked up a sword.
“At this point in the video a sound can be heard which is consistent with the tip of a long blade being dragged across something,” the charging document states.
The woman later told investigators that Ward pointed the sword at her and twice advanced as though he intended to stab her. She was not struck, according to the sheriff’s office.
The affidavit says Ward repeatedly declared, “I want you to die,” before yelling, “GET BACK” and ordering the woman onto the bed.
Ward then allegedly set aside the sword and retrieved a crossbow, investigators said.
The woman told authorities she could not be certain whether the weapon was ready to fire, but said she saw a bolt loaded into the crossbow as Ward pointed it toward her.
She described the bolt as having a three-sided tip, a design commonly associated with a hunting broadhead rather than a field tip, according to the deputy’s report. That detail led investigators to conclude the crossbow was likely cocked and capable of firing.
Later that night, Ward reportedly put down the crossbow, giving the woman an opportunity to reach the handgun, the sheriff’s office said.
Holding the firearm, she managed to get outside. Ward allegedly pursued her, but she returned indoors, locked the door and called 911, authorities said.
According to investigators, Ward forced his way back into the home and knocked the phone from her hand. Deputies were already responding to the emergency call.
Ward remains held at the Laramie County Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 21.
