Jurrien Timber could be set to miss next summer’s European Championship, according to reports in the Netherlands.

The defender underwent surgery in August on an anterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered just 50 minutes into his Arsenal debut. It was hoped he’s still be able to feature in the latter part of the campaign.

However, reports in the Netherlands have cast doubt on his chances of taking the field again this term.

Gunners fans were readying themselves for the former Ajax’s star return in the new year but his comeback may be a little further off than initially anticipated.

The Netherlands secured their place at next summer’s tournament by finishing second in a qualifying group that included France and an improved Greece.

Koeman’s side claimed a crucial 1-0 win against the 2004 winners in Athens in October which effectively booked their place at the competition.

Timber earned a £40million move to north London after starring for the four-time European Cup winners. The 22-year-old was part of two title winning Ajax teams and took home the Eredivisie’s Player of the Season Award for the 2021-22 season.

In his absence Mikel Arteta’s side have made a solid start in their bid to improve on last year’s second place finish.

Takehiro Tomiyasu and Oleksandr Zinchenko have been the favoured left-back options in the early weeks of the campaign.
