Mason Mount appeared to be committing to Movember in the final days of the month as he arrived at Manchester United’s Carrington training ground on Friday.

The player’s clean-cut shave and neatly combed moustache was somewhat of a throwback look and seemed a nod to the initiative’s aim of growing facial hair for the month of November.

Movember is an annual movement that encourages people to grow moustaches for the duration of the month, traditionally to raise awareness for mental health issues in men.

The Gunners past and present took part in a campaign for Gillette at the start of the month which saw Wright ask the Arsenal goalkeeper to be his ‘Mo Mate’ in a playful ad which saw Wright admit his inability to grow ‘a decent’ moustache.

‘I’m so happy to be working with Gillette to support Movember again,’ claimed Wright.

‘I can’t grow a decent moustache, so Aaron is my Mo Mate and he’s growing one that’s hopefully good enough for the both of us, and that gets people talking.

‘I bottled up my feelings for years, and when I finally spoke to someone, it was the best thing I ever did,’ Wright continued.

‘I hope this campaign helps others open up and ask for help if they’re struggling.’

The Movember campaign aims to get men talking about mental health as the rate of male suicides in the UK is alarmingly high; three in every four suicides are by men, and across the world on average there is a male suicide every minute.

Mount is outspoken about his commitment to charitable causes, and founded his own foundation, as well as being a patron for Together For Short Lives, a not-for-profit organisation for children with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions.

After a fallow international break, Mount will be hopefully of performing well in preparations for Man United’s clash against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.

The player has had a stuttered start to life at Old Trafford after his £60million move away from boyhood side Chelsea, after being sidelined by nagging injury concerns less than a month after the beginning of the season.

As he continues to work himself back to full fitness, the midfielder has been somewhat overlooked by head coach Erik ten Hag – who advocated for his signing after first spotting the player on loan at Vitesse Arnhem – and has made just seven starts across all competitions.

Yet to score or regist an assist in the Premier League this season, Mount set up team-mate Casemiro during the Red Devils’ 3-0 victory against Crystal Palace in the first round of their Carabao Cup defence.

Currently clinging on to sixth place after an uneven run of form, United have a tricky run of league ties before Christmas after facing a defiant Everton this weekend.

Ten Hag’s men have clashes against Newcastle, Chelsea, and Liverpool to contend with ahead of the festive period, whilst the side also battles to stay afloat in their Champions League group.

With challenging match-ups against Galatasaray and Bayern Munich to come, United languish rock bottom of Group A after four matchdays.
