Former Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has claimed Jadon Sancho did not have a single discipline problem during his brief spell in charge.

Sancho has rejoined his former club Borussia Dortmund on loan until the end of the season, having been made an outcast at United after falling out with Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag questioned the winger’s efforts in training during a press conference in September, only for Sancho to fire back and refute the claims on social media. He then refused to apologise for his response and was dropped from the first-team.

Mail Sport revealed United will have to stump up £100,000 of Sancho’s £295,000-a-week wages, but all parties will have been relieved to draw a line under the saga.

However, speaking to Sky Germany, Rangnick struck a contrasting tone to Ten Hag, claiming he had never experienced any issues with Sancho’s application.

‘He had his best time in Dortmund and, when he was healthy, he always played for me,’ Rangnick said. ‘However, he wasn’t as carefree as in Dortmund.

‘But that was also due to the overall situation. When he was fit, he was set and did well under me. He no longer had a chance in Manchester.

‘He now has to get back into a rhythm and really into shape in Dortmund. From his point of view, the change makes perfect sense.

‘In the six months I had him, there wasn’t a single discipline problem. On the contrary. He is a calm and pleasant guy.’

Rangnick took charge of United in November 2021 on a temporary basis after stepping in following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking. He remained in post until the end of the campaign before a mooted consultancy role for two years was shelved.

Fresh from sealing his comeback to Dortmund, who he played for between 2017 and 2021, Sancho said: ‘When I came into the dressing room, it felt like “coming home”.

‘I know the club inside and out, I’ve always been very close with the fans here, and I’ve never lost contact with those in charge.

‘I can’t wait to see my teammates, go out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, prepare goals, score goals and help qualify for the Champions League.’

Sancho will wear the No 10 shirt at Dortmund and will hope to play himself back into contention for England ahead of this year’s European Championship in Germany.
