Manchester United have enjoyed a long rest which was certainly needed and they return to action with a trip to Newport County in the FA Cup fourth round.

Erik ten Hag’s side last took to the field on January 14 when they played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at home against Tottenham. For a team that has been struggling with poor form and lots of injuries, the 14-day rest between that match and this trip to Wales was welcome.

Newport are currently 14th in League Two and are one of the lowest-ranked teams left in the FA Cup this season, setting up a complete mismatch.

Here is all you need to know about United’s trip to face Newport in the FA Cup.

This is the first ever competitive meeting between Newport County and Manchester United.

This promises to be a superb spectacle and one that the Newport fans will be seriously excited for. It will be starting to get dark as the match begins and the action will take place under the lights – the ingredients are there for a real cup upset.

That being said, there were signs of real improvement for United against Tottenham, they have had a rest, and Ten Hag is expected to name a strong team to avoid any nasty surprises that he really doesn’t need. It could be a slog, but the visitors should make it through.
