A Plaque That Honored A Black Family

A plaque honoring the Black family who owned a California beach that was seized by segregationist officials in 1924 has been stolen from Bruces Beach Park. The Black family’s plaque is said to be made of bronze.

The Black family’s plaque was dedicated last year after the land was sold back to the government for $20 million. Authorities are investigating the incident about the stolen plaque of the Black family but have no leads yet.

There is no evidence suggesting that it was a hate crime towards the Black family. The stolen plaque that honored the Black family held significant historical and cultural value.

According to a published article by NBC News, the Black family’s plaque recognizes the racial motivations behind the government’s actions at the time. The county’s plaque atop the former Bruces Beach parcels remains intact despite the Black family’s being stolen.

A Blue Plaque Commemorating Marie Randall

In a published article by BBC, a blue plaque will be unveiled in Guernsey to commemorate Marie Randall, the first female deputy in the area. Randall was elected in 1924 and was the only woman in the assembly for 24 out of her 31 years in government.

She was a women’s rights activist and campaigned for equal rights. One of her notable achievements was successfully reducing the voting age for women to 20. Randall’s legacy has been studied by pupils at Ladies College, who describe her as inspiring and trailblazing.
