Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Andre Blake surrendered a mind-blowing own goal during his team’s 3-2 win over Costa Rican minnows Deportivo Saprissa in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Just as the game hit the 28-minute mark, Union defender Jakob Glesnes tried to play a long pass back to his goalkeeper.

Glesnes was being pressed by an attacker when he tried to play the panicked pass, only for it to bounce several yards in front of the unprepared goalie and take an awkward hop.

MLS analyst Taylor Twellman weighed in on the goal on X and it seemed clear that he was not impressed by the blunder.

Blake was unable to get a body part on the panicked pass as it found its way into the net

In reply to a tweet blaming Blake for the goal, he posted: ‘Awful idea/pass from Glesnes (you risk this playing this kind of pass btw)….but Felipe is not wrong when you watch the super mo replay.

‘Blake doesn’t need to jump there.’

Philadelphia fought back to level the game up when Julian Carranza punched in a header from close range that found its way into the bottom corner.

Carranza then went on to secure himself two more goals and finish the game with a hat-trick to give the Union the win, despite their comical error.

His second goal of the night came in the 75th minute when he blasted in a right-footed shot from close range.

The man of the match then scored his third goal after he found space in the center of box following a well-timed counter attack four minutes later.

Deportivo Saprissa managed to score a late consolation goal as the MLS side held out for victory.
