Liverpool have the chance to add to their lead at the top of the Premier League table when they host Luton Town on Wednesday night.

The Reds hold a two-point lead over Arsenal after their most recent victory at Brentford and play in midweek ahead of their Carabao Cup clash with Chelsea at the weekend.

Luton were as determined as ever in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United and nearly won the reverse fixture back in November only for Luis Diaz to equalise in the 95th minute.

Here’s 90min’s preview of Wednesday’s fixture.

Liverpool’s injury list has stretched over the past week or so. They suffered a double injury blow during the first half of the Brentford win as Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota were withdrawn while Darwin Nunez came off at half-time.

Official confirmation on the severity of their problems is expected before Wednesday, but Jurgen Klopp is already without Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Dominik Szoboszlai, Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic.

Alisson missed the win at the Gtech Community Stadium, with Caoimhin Kelleher ready to fill in if the Brazilian doesn’t recover from his muscle issue in time.

Liverpool predicted lineup vs Luton Town (4-3-3): Kelleher; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Endo, Elliott; Salah, Gakpo, Diaz.

Elijah Adebayo

Luton had to battle Man Utd without top goalscorer Elijah Adebayo after he limped out in the warm-up.

The 26-year-old could be absent again at Anfield, joining Tom Lockyer, Marvelous Nakamba and Mads Andersen on the sidelines through injury. New arrival Daiki Hashioka is still acclimatising and likely won’t be involved.

Luton Town predicted lineup vs Liverpool (3-4-2-1): Kaminski; Mengi, Osho, Bell; Ogbene, Lokonga, Brakley, Doughty; Townsend; Clark; Morris.

Liverpool likely wouldn’t have wanted another fixture so close to their Carabao Cup final, with injuries piling up at a crucial point in the season.

However, Klopp’s side continue to find a way to win in difficult circumstances, showing their ruthless edge to breeze past Brentford, and they should be fresh enough to overcome their spirited visitors on Wednesday.

The Hatters will be desperate for a point given clashes with Manchester City and Aston Villa are also on the horizon, but they’ll likely leave Merseyside with nothing to show for their efforts.
