Wrexham took to social media to troll MK Dons manager Mike Williamson over a controversial goalline decision which went the way of the Welsh side.

James McClean scored for the visitors at Stadium mk on Tuesday night before Dan Kemp’s equaliser, while both sides were reduced to ten men with red cards for Dean Lewington and William Boyle.

But the League Two match may be remembered for a close call where MK Dons could have got a winner, with Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo looking to have accidentally taken the ball past his own goal-line.

In the post-match interview, posted by the home club on X (formerly Twitter), Williamson expressed his frustration, suggesting referees may unconsciously favour Wrexham because of their Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

The actors became co-owners of the club in North Wales a little over three years ago, broadcasting the Wrexham story to the world via a documentary series.

Williamson said: ‘I’ve got a lot of respect for the manager, the club, their fantastic team, but it’s really frustrating’, adding ‘everybody in the stadium knew it was a clear goal’.

Wrexham took to their own social page to respond with a clip of the incident, cheekily captioned: ‘Look at the white bit’.

The video also featured popular online pundit Mark Goldbridge saying that line, over the footage of Okonkwo’s fumble.

Williamson said he would speak to the referee about the incident, adding ‘I’d like to have an interaction with him once he has seen it’.

He stated: ‘I think the rules are that I’m not allowed to show him footage, but as men, you need to look at it and hold your hands up. We as players and managers have to.’

The exchange has highlighted the differing opinions on the goal-line incident, with both sides arguing their opinions, without the use of VAR to make an intervention in League Two.

Third-placed Wrexham will look to bounce back from Tuesday’s draw when they travel to Gillingham on Saturday afternoon, whilst fifth-placed MK Dons host Newport County.
