Liverpool are mulling over plans to hold a parade through the city at the end of the season to give fans the opportunity to say goodbye to Jurgen Klopp.

The German will leave the club at the end of the season after nine years of service at Anfield – 90min understands Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso is the leading contender to succeed him.

The Times report that Liverpool have held internal discussions over a parade to honour Klopp once the season concludes.

The Reds won the Carabao Cup on Sunday, though there is a possibility they do not win further silverware this season and only winning this sole trophy would not usually be cause for a parade. However, Klopp’s imminent departure has prompted a rethink ‘at executive level’ and he will be consulted before plans move forward.

Liverpool are still in contention for three further trophies, with Klopp’s side top of the Premier League and through to the last 16 of both the Europa League and FA Cup.

In order for any plans to go ahead, Liverpool’s city council would have to invite the club to host a parade through the streets.

Liverpool’s last parade came in 2022, one day after their Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid in Paris. On that occasion, they celebrated winning two trophies – the Carabao Cup and FA Cup – after narrowly missing out on the European Cup and Premier League.

They also held a parade in 2019 after beating Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final, with an estimated 750,000 taking to the streets of Liverpool to celebrate.

The club were unable to stage a parade in 2020 to celebrate their Premier League success – Liverpool’s first English league title in three decades – due to the coronavirus pandemic.
