Weight loss influencer Lexi Reed has showcased her taunt figure after she dropped 100 pounds following her battle with calciphylaxis, which left her suffering from kidney failure and in a medically-induced coma.

The 33-year-old from Indiana – who shot to fame in 2016 after documenting her 312-pound weight loss – has revealed she has shed off 100 pounds while in remission for her rare disease, in which calcium accumulates in small blood vessels of the fat and skin tissues and causes blood clots.

She candidly opened up about her weight loss issues as well as her diagnosis in an Instagram post – adding that her life has been turned ‘upside down.’

Lexi boasted off her weight loss win on social media as she shared that she was terrified she wouldn’t ‘survive’ before noting that she’s so proud of herself for finding ‘the strength’ to fight, despite the ‘odds being stacked against [her]’.

She wrote in the Instagram post: ‘Remission, 100lbs, + my battle with Calciphylaxis – a rare disease that I was diagnosed with that completely turned my life upside down & made me question how strong that I truly was.

‘With personally having 30+ painful open wounds, and calciphylaxis having a mortality rate of over 80% due to infection (the leading cause of death), I was scared I wasn’t going to survive.’

She showed off her 100-pound weight loss in a mirror selfie and explained that she has been fighting hard to stay alive.

Last year, Lexi underwent 59 weeks of treatment for the wounds that covered her body.

Now, she shared that she was able to overcome her ‘pain’ and ‘fear.’

‘However, through the pain & through the fear, I found my strength to live & heal was more powerful than focusing on the odds stacked against me and I fought as hard as I could to survive one of the hardest battles of my life.

‘This picture shows more than just the weight I lost, but taking back the fight to live, healing & refusing to take life for granted.

‘Sometimes life with knock us down and make us question how strong that we truly are, but what matters most is not giving up despite what we face or the fear – start today!’ the weight loss influencer

She noted that she will ‘never take the chance to move for granted.’

Lexi started her weight loss journey in 2016 when she weighed 485 pounds.

In 2022, she was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with an unexplained kidney failure and had to be put into a medically-induced coma.

She was put on a ventilator and forced into a medically-induced coma, which left her unable to walk.

She underwent dialysis and spent a significant amount of time in a wheelchair.

Lexi’s husband, Danny, revealed via Instagram that she had been hospitalized after she ‘couldn’t keep any food down’ and started ‘acting differently.’

‘A few weeks ago Lexi kept getting sick and couldn’t keep any food down,’ he wrote at the time.

‘She then started acting differently so I took her to the hospital where they admitted her into ICU, placed on a medically induced comma, on a ventilator, and [told] me that her organs started failing.

‘They also told me if I had waited its possible she could have died. She is currently in dialysis, can’t walk, and working on recovery.

‘Sadly we do not have insurance. Thank you all for your prayers they all mean so much to us and this will be a long hard battle part of her story but she is strong!’

He also wrote on a GoFundMe page started for Lexi – where they’ve raised more than $60,000 – that she is waiting to find out if she needs a kidney or liver transplant.

Lexi and Danny shot to fame in 2016 after their weight loss story went viral.

The couple, who said ‘I do’ in 2015, weighed a combined 765 pounds and gorged on a total of 8,000 calories a day before making a New Year’s resolution to lose weight.

They traded fast food for home-cooked meals and started going to the gym five to six times a week. In two years, Lexi went from 485 pounds to 173 pounds, while Danny dropped 95 pounds from his 208-pound frame.

‘We didn’t have a meal plan, surgery, personal trainer, but what we did have was each other and the motivation within to work hard every single day,’ she wrote in an inspiring Instagram post in 2017.

Lexi noted that they had no idea that six months into their resolution they would become a ‘completely different couple.’

‘We may have lost the weight but we have grown closer together. Pound by pound, step by step, day by day — we have transformed our lives and molded our bodies into the people we’ve always wanted to be,’ she shared.

Lexi ended the post with a tribute to her husband, explaining that Danny has always loved and supported her no matter what her weight.

In 2018, she underwent a nine-hour surgery to remove seven pounds of excess skin from her body with the intention of having more removed in the future.

For the past eight years, Lexi has been chronicling the ups and downs of her weight loss journey on her Instagram page, which has been a source of inspiration for millions.

In September, she shared side-by-side photos of herself at her heaviest and now, explaining she gained back some of the weight she had lost during the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘I’m still happy to be alive after fearing I’d miss 30 and I’ll never go back to where I was,’ she wrote. ‘Start today!’
