Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard has responded to Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher’s fresh over-celebrating jibes.

Carragher was furious with Arsenal players’ conduct following their crucial 3-1 win at home to title rivals Liverpool last month, with Odegaard facing the brunt of his wrath. The Gunners captain took the club photographer’s camera and started taking pictures with it

“Just get down the tunnel. You’ve won a game, three points,” Carragher said a the time. “They’ve been brilliant, back in the title race…get down the tunnel. I’m serious, honestly.”

Much of the footballing discourse in the days following the match revolved around whether Arsenal had over-celebrated the victory. However, this criticism faced backlash and Carragher was widely labelled as the ‘celebration police’.

Odegaard scored the opening goal of Arsenal’s 6-0 victory at Sheffield United on Monday tonight and he was interviewed by Carragher post-match, with the former Liverpool defender refusing to miss out on the chance to renew the saga.

“Martin, it was a fantastic performance by yourself and a great win for the team. I just didn’t see the photographer on the pitch!” Carragher said.

“Is he in the dressing room? Are you going to get together?”

Odegaard laughed at Carragher’s question and replied: “I was waiting for that. I was waiting for you to say something. I was too scared to do it today, so I just went straight inside today.”

Arsenal remain two points behind Liverpool in the Premier League standings, while they also sit one behind Manchester City. However, at least one of the Gunners’ title rivals will drop points this weekend as the top two do battle at Anfield.

Mikel Arteta’s side are on a run of seven successive Premier League victories in 2024 having lost their final two games of 2023, scoring an impressive 21 goals in their last four matches.
