Manchester City will reportedly offer Rodri a lucrative new contract that will propel the Spanish star into the Premier League’s top earners.

Defensive midfielder Rodri, 27, is already contracted to the Treble winners until 2027 on wages of around £180,000-a-week.

However, according to The Sun, City want to extend that and boost his salary into the £300,000-a-week bracket.

But talks could take place this summer with a two-year extension reportedly on the table to take Rodri up until the age of 32.

The pay rise would put Rodri, who hasn’t tasted defeat in any match he’s played in for City or Spain since March 28 last year, among the highest earners at the Etihad Stadium.

Premier League highest earners

1. Kevin De Bruyne (Man City) – £400,000-a-week

2. Erling Haaland (Man City) – £375,000-a-week

3. Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – £350,000-a-week

4. Casemiro (Man United) – £340,000-a-week

5. Raphael Varane (Man United) – £340,000-a-week

6. Raheem Sterling (Chelsea) – £325,000-a-week

7. Jadon Sancho (Man United) – £320,000-a-week

8. Enzo Fernandez (Chelsea) – £315,000-a-week

9= Jack Grealish (Man City) – £300,000-a-week

9= Marcus Rashford (Man United) – £300,000-a-week

Kevin De Bruyne is believed to be the Premier League’s highest earner on £400,000-per-week and star striker Erling Haaland gets £375,000-a-week.

Rodri’s earnings would be on a par with Jack Grealish around the £300,000-a-week mark.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, Manchester United quartet Casemiro, Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford, plus Chelsea pair Raheem Sterling and Enzo Fernandez are believed to earn over £300,000 each week.

Rodri has proved himself more than worthy of his £62.6million transfer fee when City signed him from Atletico Madrid in 2019.

He has helped Pep Guardiola’s side win three Premier League titles, the FA Cup, two League Cups, the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Rodri scored City’s winner when they beat Inter Milan to win the Champions League final and complete the Treble last season.

His influence is such that City’s three Premier League defeats this season have come when Rodri was suspended, while he has contributed eight goals and 12 assists across all competitions.

While Rodri did play in August’s Community Shield loss to Arsenal on penalties, the last time he played in a losing team in normal time was Spain’s Euro 2024 qualifying loss to Scotland last March.

City beat Crystal Palace 4-2 on Saturday lunchtime to keep up the pressure in the Premier League title race and they take on Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final, first leg this Tuesday.

Last month, Guardiola said Rodri is the world’s best midfielder but acknowledged his role means he doesn’t always win the plaudits.

The City manager said: ‘I would say if the holding midfielder doesn’t get the same appreciation as the strikers or the No 10 then that is good. When a holding midfielder has a lot of appreciation, it is not good.

‘The holding midfielder has to play positive, for him and for the team, and make the team play. This is the role for the holding midfielders. All the highlights have to be for the guys up front who score goals and make assists and so on.

‘But Rodri always has the ability in important moments to score goals so he’s an unbelievable player. He’s the best midfield player in the world currently by far because he is able to do everything.

‘What a signing. It’s difficult to understand how we could have done what we have done in recent years without him.’
