As the federal election campaign progresses, both Labor and the Coalition have revealed a variety of policies aimed at winning over voters.

Contrary to 2022, when Anthony Albanese adopted a “small target” campaign with minimal significant policy differences between the major parties, there are distinct contrasts in this election cycle.

Here are the main election promises made by Labor and the Coalition in the lead-up to the 2025 election.

Labor largely sidestepped the Coalition’s crime-related announcements by referencing its policies from the last term, such as the establishment of a child sexual offender registry and a crackdown on the illegal importation of tobacco into Australia.

The Coalition committed to investing $750 million in various crime-related initiatives, including testing a new child sex offenders disclosure scheme, forming an AFP strike force to combat illicit drugs, and introducing a national antisemitism taskforce headed by the AFP.

It also said it would standardise knife laws and roll out detector wands across the country in conjunction with the states and territories.
