MIAMI, Fla. (NEXSTAR) — Actor and TV personality Kirk Medas, renowned as a cast member of MTV’s “Floribama Shore,” has passed away at 33, as confirmed by family and friends. Medas had been hospitalized in Miami for several weeks, suffering from severe necrotizing pancreatitis and sepsis.

Medas’ family confirmed his death to TMZ, with Medas’ father telling the outlet that his son died of liver failure.

Medas’ costar from “Floribama Shore,” Aimee Hall, shared in a now-removed Facebook post, as reported by Deadline: “We lost our brother, our best friend, our heart — Kirk… I already miss his voice, his laughter, his presence. The world feels a little dimmer without him — but I know I’ll see my best friend again someday.”

The show “Floribama Shore,” a spin-off of MTV’s “Jersey Shore,” aired from 2017 to 2021, with Medas being a key cast member throughout all four seasons.

What is necrotizing pancreatitis?

Cleveland Clinic explains that necrotizing pancreatitis is “when pancreatitis inflammation is so severe that it causes tissue death (necrosis).” This can cause a battery of issues, according to the clinic.

Short-term complications include infection, which the clinic says occurs in up to 20% of cases, in addition to hemorrhaging and fluid collections in the surrounding tissues of the pancreas.

The clinic says that necrotizing pancreatitis happens in about 20% of pancreatitis cases. The organization says acute pancreatitis causes about 275,000 hospital stays in the U.S. per year.
