Texas detainees fearing deportation to El Salvador signal SOS

DALLAS () Migrants held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Texas sent a powerful message to the outside world this week.

More than 30 detainees arranged themselves in a dirt yard at the Bluebonnet Detention Facility in Anson, Texas, to form the letters “S-O-S,” an internationally recognized distress signal, while a drone flew overhead, sparking new concerns about the Trump administration’s mass deportation policies.

The facility, located about 200 miles west of Dallas, has been at the center of controversy, particularly over the planned deportation of Venezuelan detainees. According to Reuters, the families of seven detainees insist their loved ones are not affiliated with the Tren de Aragua gang, contradicting the administration’s allegations.

Trump: ‘Rogue judges’ blocking deportations

Dozens of Venezuelan detainees were on the brink of being deported to a notorious maximum security prison in El Salvador, where the Trump administration has sent at least 137 Venezuelans under the 1798 Alien Enemies Act.

However, those plans were temporarily halted when the U.S. Supreme Court intervened, pausing the deportations and escalating tensions between the judiciary and the White House.

President Donald Trump criticized the court’s decision.

“We’ve run into, I would call them rogue judges,” Trump said. “These are radical left, generally radical left, horrible judges. Some judge that nobody has ever heard of is holding us back. It’s very dangerous for our country. You want to see a country that will have crime, let that happen.”

Judge orders due process for Guantanamo Bay detainees

The administration faced another setback Wednesday when a federal judge ruled that migrants detained at Guantanamo Bay must be granted due process. The base received its first group of migrants in March, including alleged Tren de Aragua members, who were transferred to El Salvador before the ruling.

Despite the legal challenges, the Trump administration is continuing to seek ways to deport migrants to El Salvador, maintaining that many pose a serious threat due to suspected gang affiliations.
