GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Greeneville Police Department (GPD) informed News Channel 11 on Saturday that they are searching for a man who allegedly attempted an armed robbery at a Dollar General using a knife. The suspect is still at large and is considered dangerous.
A statement from the GPD said the robbery attempt took place at 243 W. Summer Street around 11:28 a.m.
“As per the store clerk and footage from the surveillance cameras, a white male suspect entered the store armed with a knife and threatened the cashier to hand over money,” the statement reveals. “When the cashier didn’t open the register quickly, the suspect punched her in the face, causing her to fall.”
The GPD said the man then exited the store and ran away on foot. The statement said he did not leave with any money.
Authorities have warned that the suspect is dangerous and still on the run. The man is described as having a medium build and height. During the incident, he was seen wearing blue jeans, a black hoodie, and a white mask.
This is a developing story.
