A man has been charged with murder in Queensland after a woman’s death while kayaking in 2020.

The woman, aged 54, was familiar with the man, and the two were kayaking on Lake Samsonvale close to Forgan Cove in Joyner, City of Moreton Bay, on November 27 of that year.

During their time on the lake, the woman fell into the water and drowned.

When she was brought to the shore, witnesses and emergency services performed CPR but she was declared dead at the scene.

Police revealed today that although her death initially seemed non-suspicious, detectives changed their stance following extensive coronial inquiries.

Police arrested a 55-year-old man yesterday when he was visiting Brisbane from his current home in Thailand.

It’s alleged the man was involved in the woman’s death.

He has been charged with one count each of domestic violence murder, fraud, and attempted fraud.

He was refused police bail and will appear in court today.
