The U.S. Coast Guard said the 63-foot boat began taking on water off Monument Island late Saturday afternoon.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — A Lamborghini yacht, carrying 32 passengers, began to sink near Miami Beach over the weekend, leading to a successful rescue operation by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The yacht, measuring 63 feet (19 meters), started taking on water near Monument Island late on Saturday afternoon. The Coast Guard received calls for assistance, and responders included the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and marine patrol units from various local police departments.

The people were taken to the Miami Beach Marina and checked out by Miami Beach Fire Rescue.

“I saw a lot of police boats and another yacht that was completely flipped over and vertically positioned in the water,” a witness named Rachel Miller shared with Miami’s WSVN TV station.

Authorities said they don’t yet know why the yacht began taking on water. It was later pushed out of the channel and did not pose a threat to boaters, the Coast Guard said.

The fish and wildlife agency will lead an investigation.

Monument Island is near Star Island, home to many celebrities.

It was a busy weekend in South Florida, with an air and sea show drawing large crowds to the beach in Fort Lauderdale and the Miami Grand Prix in nearby Miami Gardens.
