WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Students at Ridgeview Elementary continued to enhance their professional conduct skills by participating in the second installment of the “Amazing Shake” event.

On Monday, students underwent the 16 stations of “The Gauntlet” in the school’s gym.

“I have enjoyed it a lot,” expressed seventh-grade student Teddy Nadelen. “It’s truly a wonderful experience because these are skills you’ll need in the future. It’s incredibly engaging and enlightening for everything you do.”

Each station provided a unique type of interview or interaction with an adult. News Channel 11 and Storm Team 11 were represented at some stations where students participated in a TV interview and presented a weather forecast.

“The students will learn how to carry on an interview process,” Ridgeview Elementary teacher Beth Cunningham said. “They’ll learn to make eye contact, firm handshake, real-world experiences. They’ll go to 16 different stations, and at each station they’ll have a different scenario.”

The simulated interactions varied greatly, even including talking to a Titanic survivor on a lifeboat.

“I’ve learned a lot of things,” Nadelen said. “How to deal with a bug in your food, all the way to saving yourself on a life raft, begging for a life raft. It’s so important, and it’s so fun to experience everything that they do. And people set it up, and it’s just so amazing. It’s such a great experience for everything.”

The Gauntlet was completed by 80 students who made up the top 20% of 6th-8th-grade students at Ridgeview. The top 20% of the ones who competed on Monday will move on to the third level of the competition.

“The first, second and third place winners, they win monetary, money,” Cunningham said. “The first-place winner actually wins $350.”
