Director Spike Lee‘s latest project has come to light, and fans are already buzzing over its nearly minute-long teaser trailer.
In the forthcoming movie, Highest 2 Lowest, Denzel Washington takes on the role of a “powerful music executive” who finds himself in a “life-or-death ethical crisis” after becoming the target of a “ransom scheme,” according to the Apple TV+ press announcement.
Penned by Alan Fox, Highest 2 Lowest, is a modern adaptation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 crime drama High and Low, relocated to present-day New York City. This marks the fifth film partnership between Lee and Washington, following their collaborations on Mo’ Better Blues (1990), Malcolm X (1992), He Got Game (1998), and Inside Man (2006).

The cast of Highest 2 Lowest features Washington, Jeffrey Wright, A$AP Rocky, and Ilfenesh Hadera. During the May 1 episode of the The Run-Through with Vogue podcast, A$AP Rocky expressed that “working with Denzel was a dream come true.”
The film also features Ice Spice in her first feature film, Dean Winters, and John Douglas Thompson, per Variety.
When is the Highest 2 Lowest release date?
Highest 2 Lowest will hit theaters on Aug. 22, and will make its way over to streaming on Apple TV+ on Sept. 5, per The Hollywood Reporter. According to the outlet, the film is set to make its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19.
