CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — Numerous individuals harmed when a boat crashed into the Clearwater Ferry have enlisted the legal services of Morgan & Morgan to probe the incident, as announced by their attorneys on Tuesday.

One person, José Castro, 41, of Palm Harbor, was killed in the April 25 crash near the Memorial Causeway Bride, and 10 others were injured.

Eyewitnesses recounted observing passengers trapped between the vessels at the time of the collision. Law enforcement also noted “horrific screaming” in the flood of 911 calls received by dispatchers.

Morgan & Morgan’s lawyers indicated that the victims endured various injuries. Each of them required hospitalization and continues to undergo follow-up medical treatment.

As of May 6, no charges had been filed in relation to the incident. The FWC has said the operator of the recreational boat involved in the crash has been cooperating with its investigation.

Among those now working with Morgan & Morgan is a family and two siblings who were riding together on the ferry. It’s unclear just how many other victims have retained counsel.

Morgan & Morgan founder John Morgan and attorney Mark Hanson provided the following joint statement regarding their investigation.

“All Floridians know that operating a boat on the open water comes with the crucial responsibility to ensure the safety of all those around you,” their statement read. “What should have been a routine trip home from the beach turned into a grisly nightmare last week, and Morgan & Morgan has been retained by several victims to investigate the collision. We plan to uncover any negligence that may have contributed to this crash and are exploring every possible avenue to achieve justice for the passengers hurt in this incident.”
