The Federal Aviation Administration reported that the right wingtip of a United Airlines aircraft preparing for departure at a gate made contact with the left wingtip of another United aircraft in San Francisco early Tuesday.

The FAA informed Fox News Digital that “United Airlines Flight 863, while pushing back from the gate at San Francisco International Airport, had its right wingtip strike the left wingtip of United Airlines Flight 877.”

This incident happened in an area where flight crews do not interact with air traffic controllers. Flight 863 was en route to Sydney, Australia, while Flight 877 was bound for Hong Kong, China. The FAA has announced an investigation into the event that took place at approximately 12:35 a.m. local time on Tuesday, May 6.”

“Serving in Congress has come with some once in a lifetime experiences… like just now while stationary on the runway at DCA, another plane just bumped into our wing. Heading back to the gate, but thankfully everyone is ok! (And @RepGraceMeng is handing out grapes!),” Rep. Nick LaLota, R-N.Y., said in a post on X at the time.

“The wingtip of American Airlines Flight 5490 struck American Airlines Flight 4522 on a taxiway at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport around 12:45 p.m. local time on Thursday, April 10,” the FAA noted.
