David Steiner, the newly named CEO and Postmaster General of the US Postal Service, has expressed a desire for transformative progress within the organization, viewing existing challenges as prospects for a more competitive future.

Steiner’s message follows fears that mail services would be axed.

Steiner will formally take his post in July as long as he passes the necessary background and ethics checks.

Steiner will succeed Doug Tulino, who has been serving as the Acting Postmaster General following Louis DeJoy’s resignation earlier in March.

In a statement released Friday, Steiner said it was an “incredible honor” to be chosen to head the USPS.

He said he stood firm in “maintaining its role as an independent establishment of the executive branch.”

These remarks follow discussions from President Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) regarding the potential privatization of the USPS.
