Oscar-winning A-list star unrecognizable as she almost trips

Oscar-winning A-list actress nearly falls and looks completely different

An Oscar-winning A-lister was nearly unrecognizable as she took public transportation in New York City on Sunday.

This star has three Academy Awards under her belt after getting her start as a toddler in a Coppertone sunscreen commercial.

The critically-acclaimed actress, 62, was just like anyone else as she waited for the train to come to a complete stop before entering the train.

Her foot momentarily got caught on the subway step, but she quickly recovered and entered the train without issue.

She has had a tremendously successful acting career throughout her life, starring in acclaimed films such as Taxi Driver, The Silence of the Lambs, and the popular HBO series True Detective.

Can you guess who this Hollywood icon is?

It’s Jodie Foster!

Despite being an A-lister, Jodie clearly has no qualms taking the bustling subway around town.

Once inside she opted to remain standing for a duration of the trip and wrapped an arm around a subway pole.

Eventually, however, she took a seat and occupied herself with her phone.

Jodie sported white trousers, matching trainers, and a nautical button down with blue stripes.

She’s not the only major celebrity spotted on the subway, as Sarah Jessica Parker, Hilary Swank, Helen Mirren and others have also been seen with a MetroCard in hand.

Jodie’s wildly successful acting career began when she appeared in a TV advert for Coppertone sunscreen at age three.

Her career soared to new heights after securing a role in Martin Scorsese’s 1976 film Taxi Driver, earning her an Oscar nomination at the young age of 13.

The film generated controversy for the casting of the then-12-year-old Jodie in the role of a child prostitute.

The movie, which is widely seen as one of the great American films, follows cabbie Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) who dreamed of violently cleaning up the streets of New York.

It wouldn’t be another 12 years until Jodie finally won an Oscar for her role in 1989’s Accused.

Her second Oscar followed for her role as rookie FBI agent Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs.

In total, she’s been nominated three times for an Oscar – for Taxi Driver, 1995’s Nell, and the 2024 film Nyad.

Reflecting on her career last year, she recalled how her critical and commercial success earned from starring in the 1976 thriller ‘felt like a fluke.’

Speaking on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast, the Freaky Friday star explained: ‘I started when I was three. I was on a show when I was six, and I got nominated for an Oscar when I was twelve, and I think that I always felt like it was a fluke.

‘Like I was really lucky in that I was just in the right place at the right time, and I always felt like I should feel bad that I had all these good things… I struggle with that a lot.’

She added: ‘Especially now because, we think, “Oh, unless you’re having a lot of pain and anxiety, you must not be working hard.” And you associate pain and anxiety with hard work.’

More recently she starred as Detective Liz Danvers in True Detective.

Jodie added: ‘On True Detective I don’t think I’ve ever been as happy and it was really easy, it was an easy experience and there was a part of me that was like, “oh, it’s easy, I must not be working hard.”‘

‘The fifties were really hard for me and I think for a lot of women because you’re like, “Wait, I can’t do what I used to do. I’m not gonna look the same on that cover,” or “I can’t compete with my younger self and if I try to, I just keep failing.”

‘But then the world is confusing, and you’re confused about what it is to be 50 and all the images you see are confusing. I was also incredibly happy in my personal life but I just kept saying, ‘I was meant to do something meaningful and I can’t figure out what it is.’ Then 60 happened.”

The actress explained: ‘There’s something about turning 60 that’s been so wonderful, about letting go of some of the baggage of trying to compete with your younger self. There was a lot of pressure to compete with my younger self.

‘I’m so glad that I can be a character actor and that I can bring whatever wisdom and experience that I have to the process to help other people.

‘Usually it’s just about telling them to relax and that they don’t have to worry and that they’re not in control of it anyway.’

A mother of two, Foster shares sons Charles, 26, and Christopher, 23, with her ex Cydney Bernard.

She has been married to Alexandra Hedison, a photographer/director/actress, since 2014.
