When many people see or hear the word “Warcraft”, they think “World of…”. But there’s so much more to the world of Warcraft than meets the eye.

The journey started in late 1994 with Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, the inaugural game in the series. Within a year, a follow-up expanded the ongoing battle between the rival factions.

Subsequently, Warcraft III emerged as one of the most acclaimed real-time strategy games ever, sparking a new wave of enthusiasm within the industry. It set the stage for what would grow into one of the most significant online video games in history.

World of Warcraft debuted in 2004 amidst great excitement, continuing to thrive with countless players engaging in the adventures of Azeroth. Now, the franchise boasts a Hollywood film and a thriving virtual card game: Hearthstone.

To reflect on the past 30 years of Warcraft, Blizzard’s Darren Williams and Ely Cannon sat down with 9News.com.au.

“30 years ago I played the game for the first time, well my dad installed it on the PC, and I kind of fell in love,” Williams said.

“My first exposure was actually a local hobby store,” said Cannon.

“We didn’t have a computer at home so had to go and rent time on a PC to play it.

“I remember going to the Unicorn Castle numerous times after graduating high school,” he said.

Williams and Cannon recently visited Sydney to meet fans and celebrate with the Warcraft community.
