A Florida man is accused of trying to murder his sister, allegedly attacking her with a machete as she slept in bed beside her 1-year-old child.

Ruben Altidor, 36, remains jailed without bond at the Broward County Main Jail on charges of attempted murder and aggravated child abuse. According to an arrest report obtained by local independent station WPLG, Margate Police Department officers arrested Altidor on Monday after responding to a home in Margate, Florida, where they heard a woman screaming inside.

The victim ran out of the residence and told officers that someone was trying to kill her, authorities said. When police questioned the woman’s cousin, the cousin identified the alleged attacker as Altidor, the victim’s brother.

Police took Altidor into custody at the scene. Online Broward County jail records also show he faces a probation violation tied to an aggravated battery charge in a separate case. Information about his next scheduled court appearance was not immediately available.
