DENVER (KDVR) A semitruck carrying eggs crashed on westbound Interstate 70 between Tower Road and Airport Boulevard in Aurora on Monday.

The Aurora Police Department told FOX31 that the call came in at about 12:30 a.m. when the semitruck driver reportedly swerved to avoid sudden braking after the cars in front began to brake, and crashed into a highway message board pole.

Police said the truck driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Pete & Gerry’s, an egg supplier from New Hampshire, confirmed to FOX31 that the semitruck was hauling boxes of eggs.

“At Pete & Gerry’s, the safety and well-being of everyone connected to our work, including drivers who help bring our eggs to families across the country, is our top priority. We’re grateful that the driver involved is safe and that no one was seriously harmed. We are currently working with local authorities to learn more, but at this time we have no further details to share,” said Pete & Gerry’s in a statement.

SkyFOX flew over the scene where the debris was scattered around the interstate. It is unclear how many eggs were damaged in the crash.

A Colorado Department of Transportation spokesperson said the message board sign that was struck by the semi has been determined to be structurally sound. The access ladder and catwalk that allow crews to access the sign were damaged, but overall, the damage was minimal.

CDOT said over 250 feet of guardrail was damaged as well. Repairs will be made this week, per the spokesperson.

The investigation is ongoing.
